Gull Lake Campground is a small, scenic campground at an elevation of 7,600 feet, located on Gull Lake in the town of June Lake. Though close to town on the June Lake Loop, the campsites feel private, surrounded by aspen trees, with stunning views of 12,000-foot peaks.
The campground features 11 campsites suitable for tents, motorhomes, and travel trailers up to 25 feet long. Longer RVs aren’t recommended due to short site pads and a narrow cul-de-sac turnaround.
Each site includes a picnic table, a fire ring with a grill, and a bear-proof food storage locker. You’ll also find potable water and flush toilets. Cell phone coverage is generally good.
Some campsites sit right on the shores of Gull Lake, offering beautiful views and easy water access. Because of the location and its small size, the campground is very popular and often booked months in advance.
Reservations are recommended and can be made through recreation.gov or by calling their toll-free number. The campground usually opens in late April and closes in late October, weather permitting.
At around 60 acres, Gull Lake is the smallest lake in the June Lake Loop, yet it’s a popular destination for anglers fishing for rainbow trout. Though small, it offers natural beauty and an intimate setting not found at the other lakes.
On the eastern shore of the lake is Gull Lake Marina. The marina has a tackle shop and boat rentals, including pontoon boats, flat-bottom barges, kayaks, and paddleboards. There is also a boat launch.
While there’s no boat ramp at the campground, there is a small water access area suitable for launching kayaks and paddleboards.
Apart from fishing, several trails are nearby, including the Gull Lake Trail, a short, easy loop of about 2 miles that circles the lake.
While Gull Lake Campground feels remote, it’s only half a mile from the town of June Lake, where you’ll find restaurants, bars, breweries, supply shops, and more.
Nearby campgrounds include Reversed Creek Campground, June Lake Campground, Oh Ridge Campground, and Silver Lake Campground.
