Lake Mary Campground is a popular campground located in the Mammoth Lakes Basin along the shores of Lake Mary, at an elevation of 8,900 feet. Of the 11 lakes in the area, Lake Mary is the largest and most developed, with two marinas, boat rentals, a boat ramp, a general store, and a nearby lodge.
The campground features 48 campsites suitable for tents and RVs up to 30 feet long. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring, and a bear-proof food storage locker.
Drinking water and flush toilets are available, though there are no RV hookups. Firewood can be purchased from the camp host on-site. Cell phone reception is generally spotty in the area.
The campground typically operates from June 15 to September 30, weather permitting, and opens around the same time as Lake Mary Road, which is cleared of snow as early as May or as late as July.
Around Lake Mary Road divides the campground, which sits between Lake Mary and Lake Mamie. Campsites are located on both the north and south sides of the road, with some on the south side offering views of Lake Mary.
Due to its popularity, reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season. You can book a site through recreation.gov or by calling their toll-free number.
Lake Mary is a popular destination for outdoor activities. While swimming is prohibited, the lake is a favorite among anglers as one of the area’s most heavily stocked trout lakes.
Two marinas, Pokonobe Lodge and Marina and Lake Mary Marina, offer rentals for pontoon boats, motorboats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Both marinas have general stores with fishing supplies, including tackle and bait.
Hiking and biking enthusiasts will find many nearby options, including the Lakes Basin Path. The trail runs from North Village to Horseshoe Lake, passing scenic spots like Twin Lakes Vista, Tamarack Lodge, and Lake Mary and Lake Mamie. Additionally, there are numerous hiking trails in the area.
While the campground feels remote, it’s only a short drive to the town of Mammoth Lakes. Here, you’ll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and activities, along with options for food, entertainment, and supplies.
Nearby campgrounds include Lake George Campground, Pine City Campground, Twin Lakes Campground, and Coldwater Campground.
