Sonora Bridge Campground is a primitive campground along the West Walker River near Bridgeport in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Located at 6,300 feet along State Route 108 (Sonora Pass), the campground, surrounded by Jeffrey pines, has become a favorite spot for anglers wanting to escape the crowds.
The campground has 23 campsites and can accommodate tents and RVs, but no hookups are available. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring with a grate.
As a primitive campground, Sonora Bridge Campground offers basic amenities. While more scenic campgrounds exist in the Bridgeport area, the West Walker River runs through Sonora Bridge Campground. The river’s pools and boulders make it a popular spot for anglers looking to escape the crowds. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife also regularly stocks the river with rainbow trout.
Besides fishing, visitors can access nearby hiking trails in Sonora Pass and Leavitt Meadows, a few miles to the west along Highway 108.
Due to its remoteness, it’s a good idea to pack supplies and extra drinking water. The nearest town, Bridgeport, is 20 miles to the east. Here, you’ll find restaurants, shops, gas stations, and other necessities.
